I have been a patient for over 40 years and have always received not only the most professional service, but the warmest and most personal service as well. I can't image any other practice at the end of the exam that would put me at their desk and make sure I can read the computer screen with ease. Dr. Arkin knows IT and being online is critical to my job, and never fails to make sure that there no issues reading the screen!
He's a great doctor. Very personable, great sense of humor. I always look forward to seeing him. I've had some weird situations with my eyes over the years, and he was able to diagnose what was going on and tell me what to do to treat it. He's very knowledgeable. The staff is caring as well. I never feel like I'm getting the runaround or that they're too busy to care. A very nice office environment.

A large part of the examination is finding out what the patient is experiencing and determining the type of dry eye causing the symptoms. We examine the surface of the eye under a microscope to look at the quantity and the quality of the tear film. Additionally, we examine the eyelids and the glands inside the eyelids to insure they are healthy.
For mild to moderate dry eye, treatments may include over the counter products such as artificial tears, vitamin supplements, warm compresses, and moisture googles. More severe dry eye may be treated with prescription medications, implanted punctal plugs, or Prokera amniotic membranes. Our doctors will recommend certain products based on your particular signs and symptoms.
Of course – stay hydrated and making sure you consume enough water each day. Additionally, take breaks from your computer and smart phone. I recommend the 20/20/20 Rule – take a 20 second break every 20 minutes and look 20 feet away and blink your eyes. Finally, wearing sunglasses is critical to protecting the surface of the eye and the eyelids from UV exposure.
PROKERA is a therapeutic device used by our eye doctors to help repair and encourage healing of damaged eye surfaces. PROKERA is made by clipping a piece of amniotic membrane tissue in between two rings made out of a clear, flexible material. Prokera facilitates faster healing, relieves pain, reduces scarring, and decreased inflammation.
In particular, Prokera is effective at treating:
- Dry eye syndrome
- Chemical burns
- Corneal ulcers, abrasions, erosions, inflammation, and infections
- Bullous keratopathy
These hard-to-fit contacts are rigid gas permeable lenses that have an extra-large diameter. They vault completely over your cornea, coming to rest on the whites of your eye (called the sclera). Scleral lenses thereby cover the irregular corneal surface with a rounded optical surface, helping you to achieve the clear vision – even if you have keratoconus.
As the shape of scleral lenses creates a bridge over the eye, it leaves a gap that fills with tears. This pocket of tears enhances a comfortable vision for people with dry eyes, which makes scleral lenses a great option for people with severe dry eye syndrome.
